LOCALBIRDER – FINGRINGHOE WICK EWT RESERVE
Wednesday 8th June 2016

A superb day out at Fingringhoe Wick EWT reserve began with superb views of several TURTLE DOVES plus GARDEN WARBLER, BLACKCAP, CUCKOO, CHIFFCHAFF and great scope views of three NIGHTINGALES along with lots more heard!

There were plenty of insects including HAIRY DRAGONFLY, 4-SPOTTED CHASER, EMPEROR, LARGE RED, AZURE & COMMON BLUE DAMSELFLIES.

The afternoon was spent on the new reserve extension where we watched the tide come in. Two pristine adult MEDITERRANEAN GULLS flew past whilst LITTLE and COMMON TERNS fed close to the hide. Waders included GREY PLOVER, REDSHANK, LAPWING, CURLEW, OYSTERCATCHER and two BAR-TAILED GODWITS. Raptors included HOBBY, MARSH HARRIERS, KESTREL and COMMON BUZZARDS soaring in the hot sunshine.

We concluded with a cooling ice cream back at the visitor centre whilst watching a family of COMMON WHITETHROATS.
