BIRDS OF THE COLNE ESTUARY - BARGE TRIP
Saturday 1st April 2017

We enjoyed a fantastic afternoon of sailing on the Thames Barge Kitty on the River Colne. Leaving Brightlingsea, we headed north towards Wivenhoe noting 5 COMMON SCOTER plus lots of waders on the mudflats.

The warm weather encouraged raptors to the skies and our tally for the afternoon was 12 COMMON BUZZARDS, 6 MARSH HARRIERS, 3 KESTRELS, 1 SPARROWHAWK and a PEREGRINE on a post at Colne Point.

Lovely flocks of BLACK & BAR-TAILED GODWITS glowed in the afternoon sunshine as we tucked in to our delicious food! A surprise were two GOOSANDER on the river near Wivenhoe.

All in all, another great day all shared with a lovely group of people.
