LAKENHEATH FEN RSPB RESERVE
Sunday 10th June 2018

Spent the day leading the Essex Birdwatching Society Field Trip to Lakenheath Fen RSPB reserve. 37 of us enjoyed hot, sunny weather and recorded 71 species during the day. Highlights had to be good numbers of EURASIAN BITTERNS with around 10 different birds including three together in the reeds. EURASIAN HOBBIES put on a flying show as they caught dragonflies over the pool.

Other species seen included GARDEN WARBLER, COMMON CUCKOO, RED KITE, WESTERN MARSH HARRIER, COMMON CRANE, COMMON BUZZARD, COMMON KINGFISHER, SEDGE & REED WARBLERS, EURASIAN TEAL and BEARDED REEDLING.

Dragonflies seen were BLUE CHASER, FOUR-SPOTTED CHASER, BROAD-BODIED CHASER, VARIABLE BLUET, LARGE RED-EYE, AZURE & COMMON BLUETS plus BANDED DEMOISELLE.
