We spend the day at this excellent reserve on the banks of the River Crouch where we hope to see a good selection of wintering species including large flocks of Dark-bellied Brent Geese which with careful scrutiny may reveal Black Brant or Pale-bellied Brent Geese. The lagoons are home to waders including European Golden Plovers, Ruff, Common Redshank, Dunlin and maybe a wintering Green Sandpiper.
The reserve is also an excellent place to encounter raptors with Western Barn Owl, Short-eared Owl, Western Marsh Harrier, Common Buzzard, Merlin, Common Kestrel and Peregrine Falcon regularly seen. Other species we may encounter include Western Cattle Egret, Corn Bunting, Stock Dove and Northern Raven.
