Minsmere RSPB reserve needs no introduction particularly with the BBC ‘Springwatch’ programme broadcasting from here in the past. If the weather has been mild, Woodlark and Dartford Warblers may be heard singing on the heath. The coast sees large numbers of wintering Red-throated Diver and Great Crested Grebe as well as Common Scoter and a few Northern Gannet passing northwards back to their breeding grounds.
The reed-beds hold Eurasian Bittern, Common Kingfisher, Water Rail and Western Marsh Harrier and as dusk falls, Tundra Swans & Whooper Swans come into roost after a day of feeding in the nearby fields. During the past few years there has been a stunning Common Starling roost and the sight and sound of tens of thousands of birds wheeling across the sky is something never forgotten!
