Snettisham RSPB Reserve – Wader Spectacular

Friday 23rd August 2024

We will meet at 07.30am and make the 2.2km walk out to the RSPB reserve in anticipation of one of the best birding spectaculars in the UK. Up to 90,000 Red Knot and many other waders get pushed onto the lagoon as the tide comes in and covers their feeding areas. This creates a breathtaking scene as the great mass of swirling birds whirl around together creating amazing shapes.

As the tide recedes, the birds take off en-masse and will fly right over our heads, something we won’t forget in a hurry!

Other species we hope to see include Bar-tailed & Black-tailed Godwits, Sandwich Terns, Mediterranean Gulls, Arctic Skua, Western Marsh Harrier and Peregrine Falcon.

After lunch we will take a walk at Snettisham Coastal Park where we will search for European Turtle Dove, Northern Wheatear, Whinchat and other summer migrants before finishing mid-afternoon after what will have been a super day.
£45 per person (does not include entrance fees or parking charges)
