Winter Birding at Wallasea Island RSPB Reserve

Wednesday 26th January 2022

A superb site on the southern shore of the River Crouch with a variety of habitat from lagoons, grasslands and ditches through to estuary and scrub which attract large numbers of raptors such as Hen & Western Marsh Harriers, Short-eared and Western Barn Owl, Merlin, Common Buzzard and Peregrine Falcon.

The lagoons are a superb habitat for thousands of wintering Eurasian Wigeon and Eurasian Teal plus small numbers of Northern Pintail, Northern Shoveler and Mallard. Other species of note may include Northern Raven, Corn Bunting and European Stonechat.

All this plus thousands of waders make this a superb place to visit in winter!
