Tags: Birds, Essex, PhotographyA gentle walk along the seawall exploring the rich birdlife that is present during the winter. The area is a great place to see wintering flocks of Black-tailed Godwits plus Dunlin, Pied Avocet, Eurasian Curlew, Common Redshank and small numbers of Common Greenshank. The National Trusts’ Northey Island is a good site for Brent Goose, Common Shelduck, Northern Pintail, Western Marsh Harrier, Peregrine Falcon and Short-eared Owls.
The Oyster beds off Goldhanger are a regular site for wintering Common Goldeneye and Red-breasted Merganser plus the chance of Slavonian Grebe, Velvet & Common Scoters, Great Northern Diver and Long-tailed Duck can sometimes be seen at close range.
There is an also an excellent ‘Wilkin & Sons’ tea room that we will stop at for late morning refreshments.
