Chris Poole was born in Essex and spent his childhood in the countryside around his home discovering the wonders of the natural world. He worked as a volunteer on the Danbury Ridge reserves and gained a broad grounding in nature appreciation, especially through the late and great naturalist Geoffrey Pyman. After completing an Art & Environmental Studies degree he worked for three years on a Conservation & Education project in SW London where he discovered the joy of engaging city children with the wildlife. He carried out fauna and flora surveys and illustrated nature trail guides and has since continued to enjoy sharing the natural world through guiding and giving illustrated talks.
His passion for wildlife has led to visits to much of Europe, USA, Costa Rica, South Africa, Morocco and Israel.
His local patch is the Colchester area, where finds have included Black Kite, Rose- coloured Starling, American Golden Plover & Great Reed Warbler. He has recently added Hoverflies & Bees to his repertoire of interests.
