Back from our first tour to the Indian State of Goa situated on the west coast of India adjacent to the Arabian Sea. During our two-week long tour we recorded over 270 species of bird including many Endemic, near Endemic and regional specialities as well as over 70 Butterflies plus a huge variety of other wildlife.
Our three base tour kicked off in North Goa where we were close to a variety of habits with birds including ORIENTAL HONEY BUZZARD, BLUE-FACED MALKOHA, ASIAN PARADISE FLYCATCHER, ORANGE-FRONTED GREEN PIGEON, AMUR FALCON, JACOBIN CUCKOOS, RUDDY-BREASTED CRAKE, JUNGLE OWLET, TEREK SANDPIPERS, LESSER & GREATER SANDPLOVERS, WHITE-BELLIED SEA EAGLE, INDIAN SPOTTED EAGLE, WHITE-SPOTTED FANTAIL and TICKELL’S BLUE FLYCATCHERS.
A boat trip on the Zuari River was one of the highlights with COLLARED, BLACK-CAPPED and STORK-BILLED KINGFISHERS and ASIAN PALM SWIFTS plus INDIAN FLYING FOXES and MARSH MUGGER CROCODILES.
We then moved into the edge of the Western Ghats where goodies such as MALABAR TROGON, MALABAR FLAMEBACK, BLUE-EARED KINGFISHER, ORIENTAL DWARF KINGFISHER, WHITE-BELLIED WOODECKER, CEYLON FROGMOUTH, INDIAN JUNGLE & JERDON’S NIGHTJAR, MALABAR PIED & INDIAN GREY HORNBILLS, GREY-BELLIED CUCKOO, MALABAR WHISTLING THRUSH, INDIAN BLUE ROBIN, MALABAR WOODSHRIKE and FLAME-THROATED BULBULS.
Our final location was close to the sea in South Goa with easy access to several national parks where we caught up with WHITE-BELLIED TREEPIE, GIANT HORNBILL, WHITE-BELLIED BLUE FLYCATCHER, BROWN HAWK-OWL, INDIAN PITTA, INDIAN SCIMITAR-BABBLER, VIGOR’S SUNBIRD, FOREST WAGTAIL, ORANGE-HEADED THRUSH, GREY JUNGLEFOWL, MOUNTAIN & GREEN IMPERIAL PIGEONS, BLACK EAGLE, MALABAR BARBET and many more.
There were so many bird and wildlife highlights, plenty of laughs, great curries and other food, wonderful accommodation and nice weather which was enjoyed with a great bunch of customers!
