HOLLAND – SPRING ON THE POLDERS

Tuesday 3rd - Friday 6th May 2022

It was good to be back in the Netherlands some 22 years after leading our first ever tour which happened to be to this wonderful country. Why it had taken all this time to return we will never know but our four day trip was a great success.

Some of the wonderful highlights of this wildlife rich area included 40+ WOOD SANDPIPERS, RED-CRESTED POCHARDS, FERRUGINOUS DUCK, 3 GARGANEY, adult PURPLE HERON, 20,000 BARNACLE GEESE, 14 WHITE-TAILED EAGLES, 5 BLUETHROATS, SAVI’S WARBLER, EURASIAN WRYNECK, WESTERN CATTLE EGRET, WHOOPER SWANS, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, LITTLE GULLS, EURASIAN SPOONBILLS, EUROPEAN PIED FLYCATCHERS, 2 BLACK WOODPECKERS, HAWFINCHES, WILLOW TIT, COMMON REDSTARTS, WOODLARKS, TREE PIPITS, SHORT-TOED TREECREEPERS and EUROPEAN CRESTED TIT amongst others.

Non birds included WILD BOAR, RED SQUIRREL, RED FOX and EUROPEAN BEAVER.

Our accommodation was superb with amazing food and we are already planning on revisiting this diverse country in the future…. Watch this space!
