NORTHUMBERLAND – SEABIRD SPECTACULAR

Wed 15th - Sat 18th June 2022

So nice to return to Northumberland for our popular seabird tour and what a trip we had!

Our journey northwards produced a lovely pair of EURASIAN SPOONBILL and no less than five EURASIAN BITTERNS including two juveniles. Wildlflowers were in abundance and the air was alive with the song of warblers.

During the following few days we fitted a lot in and visited some amazing places including the world famous Farne Islands that didn’t disappoint with tens of thousands of seabirds including the wonderful ATLANTIC PUFFINS, dive bombing ARCTIC TERNS, NORTHERN FULMARS, BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, COMMON MURRES (GUILLEMOTS), RAZORBILLS, EUROPEAN SHAGS and many more which gave lots of photographic opportunities.

Other birding highlights included LESSER REDPOLL, LITTLE GULLS, LITTLE TERNS, WILLOW PTARMIGAN (RED GROUSE), WHITE-THROATED DIPPERS, GREY WAGTAILS, GRASSHOPPER WARBLER, COMMON EIDERS, WESTERN BARN OWL and the scarcest british seabird, the ROSEATE TERN of which we had good views.

Non-Avian highlights were a large pod of WHITE-BEAKED DOLPHIN, ATLANTIC GREY SEALS, BROWN HARES and a huge multitude of wildflowers. Our tour concluded nicely with amazing views of a singing male GREAT REED WARBLER that showed down to around 25 feet and wowed the group.

It was an amazing tour with lots of great wildlife, plenty of laughs, good weather all spent with a lovely group of clients.
