Delighted to have completed our first tour of 2022 down to the Southwest after a break of two years and we were not disappointed by the birding and the weather was superb.
A night in Devon enabled us to catch up with a flock of 12 CIRL BUNTINGS plus GREAT NORTHERN, BLACK-THROATED & RED-THROATED DIVERS plus a supporting cast of COMMON FIRECREST, NORTHERN FULMAR, RAZORBILL and NORTHERN RAVEN.
The following morning we took in the rarest species of the weekend, an AMERICAN BUFF-BELLIED PIPIT which gave superb views on a Devon beach and was a new bird for the whole group!
On our way to Cornwall we stopped off to see a pair of RING-NECKED DUCKS and during the next day or so we saw PURPLE SANDPIPERS, wintering BARN SWALLOW, BLACK REDSTART, more GREAT NORTHERN DIVERS, PEREGRINE FALCONS, RING-BILLED & YELLOW-LEGGED GULLS, ROSE-COLOURED STARLING and several RED-BILLED CHOUGH amongst others
Our trip concluded with scope views of three PENDULINE TITS in a Somerset reed-bed which rounded off the trip nicely and it was fantastic to be back guiding tours again.
Thanks to the clients who made the trip a pleasure to lead and if you fancy the delights of the Southwest, we are heading back from the 19th to 23rd January 2023.
